Governance

The Islandora Foundation (IF)  mission is to promote collaboration through transparency and consensus building among Islandora community members, and to steward their shared vision for digital curation features through a body of software and knowledge. The IF undertakes this mission through activities such as managing collaborative software development processes, centralizing the efforts of community members, and onboarding new members that are using Islandora for digital stewardship. The IF is a federally incorporated, community-driven soliciting non-profit in Canada supported through Membership funding.

History

Islandora was born at the University of Prince Edward Island. In 2010, UPEI received an Atlantic Innovation Fund grant to take their excellent, home-grown software to the world.

Foundation

The Foundation maintains a Board and By-laws from which the Islandora Community grows. The Board is elected biannually from the Islandora Leadership Group. Board members have 2-year terms.
