Travel

From Schiphol Airport (Amsterdam Airport) to Delft:

Go to the train station which is in the airport and take a train to Delft. Note that the slow trains are called “Sprinter”. They stop everywhere. An “Intercity” will bring you within 40 minutes to Delft.

From Rotterdam The Hague Airport (European city to city flights):

This airport is at 10 km from the centre of Delft. Take a taxi from the airport to your hotel. Public transportation to Delft is complicated: take a bus to Rotterdam Central Station and from there take a train to Delft.

Within Delft:

There are busses from Delft train station to the campus. For the Library, which is the venue of the iCamp, leave the bus at TU – Aula. The Library is behind the concrete main building of the TU, called Aula.

There is a bus stop at the south end of the centre, called Zuidpoort. Busses from there take you to TU – Aula within a few minutes. However, favourite means of transportation are: riding a bike or walk. Bikes can be rented at Delft train station.

Restaurants & Pubs

The centre of Delft has many pubs, bars and restaurants. Some nice places are:

  • The café/bar at Hotel De Plataan: no restaurant (but they do breakfast). This is an excellent meeting and starting point for activities after a day of iCamp.
  • 't Postkantoor: used to be the post office before email, but now is a grand café that serves lunch and dinner.
  • Beestenmarkt: is a small square surrounded by bars and restaurants, where you can sit outside and have a drink or have dinner. Lots of students and TU Delft employees.
  • Van der Dussen: expensive but excellent food and located in a historic courtyard.
  • Stads-Koffyhuis, an excellent place for lunch, right next to a canal. If the weather is good, you can enjoy lunch on a boat in front of the restaurant.
