Due to community interest in particular sessions of our Islandora Camp in the UK and a continued availability of seats, we are opening up single day registration. Each of the three days of Islandora Camp offers a different focus. You can check the full schedule for exact details, or the summary below:

Wednesday, May 7th - Intro and Overview Sessions

Introductory sessions and a broad overview of the current status of the Islandora project, stack, and future plans. A good day for anyone new to Islandora or looking to get an overview of the latest tools and tricks coming down the pipe.

Thursday, May 8th - Workshops

Thursday is a full day of workshops/tutorials where you can get your hands on Islandora and gain some practical experience, either via the user interface (admins) or by digging into the underlying code (devs). Admins will configure and populate a new Islandora site and Devs will build a custom Islandora module.

Friday, May 9th - Features and Tools

Friday features a close look at many of the tools available for Islandora and sessions from the Islandora community. Topics cover areas such as: TEI and critical editions in Islandora, displaying metadata with the new Solr Metadata module, Islandora Scholar for institutional repositories, and how to get stats from your repo.

One of the features of the last few Islandora Camps is the camp t-shirt given to all attendees. Every camp has its own logo. For the past few camps we have reached out to our attendees to design that logo, and we are doing it again for the UK. We want to give a free registration and a couple of extra t-shirts to the iCampUK attendee who comes up with the coolest logo for iCampUK's t-shirts.

Entries will be put up on the website for voting by camp attendees and a winner will be selected and announced March 17, 2014.

Here are the details to enter:

The Rules:

  • Camp Registration is not necessary to enter; anyone with an interest in Islandora is welcome to send in a design - however, the big prize is a free registration, so you'll have to be able to come to camp to claim it.
  • Line art and text are acceptable; photographs are not.
  • You are designing for the front of the shirt for an area up to 12 x 12 inches. Your design must be a single image.
  • Your design may be up to four colours. The t-shirt colour will be determined in part by the winning design.

The Prizes:

  • One free registration to Islandora Camp UK (or a refund if you are already registered)
  • Two extra t-shirts with your awesome logo
  • Bragging rights

How to Enter:

    • Your full name
    • A brief explanation of your logo idea
    • Your logo entry as an attachment. Minimum 1000 x 1000 pixels. High-resolution images in .eps or .ai format are preferred. We will accept .png and .jpg for the contest, but the winner must be able to supply a high resolution VECTOR art version of their entry if it is selected as the winner.
  • Entries will be accepted through March 7th, 2014 - UPDATE: deadline extended to March 13th, 2014.

  • Multiple entries allowed.
  • Submissions will be screened by the Islandora Team before posting to the website for voting.

  • We reserve the right to alter your image as necessary for printing requirements and/or incorporate the name and date of the camp into the final t-shirt design. You are free to include these yourself as part of your logo.
  • The Islandora Foundation reserves the right to make the final decision.

Islandora Camp is Going to London

Having just wrapped up a two-month spree of Islandora Camps in the US (two camps is a spree, right?), Islandora has set its sights across the Atlantic and has officially opened up registration for our next camp: Islandora Camp UK 2014, to be held on the campus of King's College London with sponsorship from the Freshwater Biological Association (and seriously, a big thank-you to our sponsors for making this one possible).

Camp will take place over three days: Days One and Three will be filled with regular sessions about what's new in Islandora and the Islandora Community. Day Two will be a full day, hands-on workshop where you can either build and configure a new Islandora site (Admin Track) or learn how to build a custom Islandora module (Developers Track). We have a great team of instructors ready to lead these workshops:

Admin Track:

Kirsta Stapelfeldt, once the Repository Manager of the Islandora Project, Kirsta is now the Digital Scholarship Unit Coordinator and the University of Toronto Scarborough. She is also an active member of the Roadmap Committee, a frequent guest-blogger on this site, and your maven of all things Islandora admin-interface.

Donald Moses is the Digitization Initiatives & Systems Librarian at UPEI, a printer of 3D objects, and a Formbuilder guru. Ask him about microservices.

Developer Track:

Alan Stanley is a programmer with discoverygarden Inc. Alan's past exploits include being the Lead Programmer for the Islandora Project, running a bike shop, and being an honest-to-goodness blacksmith. Ask him about kayaking. Or cooking. Or running. Really, just ask Alan anything, he probably has a story.

Nick Ruest is the Digital Assets Librarian at York University. He is also a member of the Islandora Roadmap Committee, a prolific committer and contributor of new modules to the community, and the first Islandora contributor to get their face in little pink hearts. Nick blogs at

These four fine people will also be giving regular sessions, but we want to hear your voices at Islandora Camp UK as well. Our Call for Proposals is open until March 15th. We hope to see you in London!
